WINNER: AtJazz

Details

Total prizemoney is $70 plus the total entry fees ($640), which is more than a 100% return! Please direct queries to Simon Woodhead. A new tournament is planned to start soon after the current one finishes. Previous tournament details:

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: These tournament rules have been developed by David
Escoffery (davide@sco.com) and are used with his kind permission. They
have been modified for Australia by Simon Woodhead (simon@uniq.com.au);
any questions should be sent to Simon, not David.

DIVISIONS and ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: There will be one division. A
limited divison will be added if/when there is sufficient demand.

Any valid Australian FIBS players other than computers (e.g. jellyfish,
mloner) that have a minimum of 50 experience points can register to
play in the Tournament; however, the Directors reserve the right to
refuse entry to any player, as well as reserving the right to waive the
50-point experience minimum. Entrants must be resident in Australia to
qualify but do not need to be Australian Citizens.

ENTRY FEES: All entry fees shall be payable in Australian Dollars to:

        Simon Woodhead
        PO Box 70
        Paddington
        NSW 2021

Entry fees for this competition are $20. Postal Orders are the preferable
mode of payment. Send cash at your own risk. Credit card entries are
not possible at this time. Personal cheques will be accepted subject
to clearance, which can take up to 5 working days.

No player will be included in the draw unless their entry fees are
postmarked by the due date *and* received by one week after the due date.
Confirmation will be sent via electronic mail when entry fees are
received.

Players whose entry fees have not arrived by the due date, but have
notified the Directors that they have been mailed, will be included
in the draw; however, their names will be replaced by "PENDING" in
the ladder when posted. This way their opponent will know he or she
has a match pending, but the match cannot start until the entry fees
are received. If a pending player's entry fees are not received by
one week after the due date, their spot will be filled by the next available player.
If no players remain on the waiting list, their opponent will be
awarded a bye. Byes will not be awarded to pending players. There will
be no exceptions.

REGISTRATION: To register, complete the attached entry form and
include with your entry fees. In order to play in the Tournament, all
players must have a valid internet address where they can send and
receive electronic mail, and be capable of using their email system.
Please make sure to include your timezone on your entry form.

FORMAT: The will consist of a Main ladder only.
(No Consolation ladder until there are 32 players or so).
The randomly generated draw will take into account spouses such that they
will be placed in different brackets. Please indicate on your entry
form if you have a spouse or significant other also entering. The draw
will be held on the day after the due date among those players with entry fees
received.

Ladders will be posted by the Tournament Directors at the start of
play, and will be clearly marked as to where winners and losers of
each match advance.

PRIZE DISTRIBUTION: 100 percent of all the collected entry fees
will be returned to the winners of the tournaments.

Prize distribution is determined by the number of competitors in the
tournament.
In the previous tournament, they were paid according
to the following distribution:

1st $300
2nd $150
3rd $40
4th $20
         ===
Total $510

MATCH LENGTHS: All match lengths in the Main Tournament will
be 7 points, except the semifinal matches which will be 9 points,
and the finals which will be 11 points. All match lengths in the
Consolation Tournament will be 7 points, except the finals which
will be 9 points.

START: The tournament is scheduled to begin on the date given above.

VENUE: All matches are to be played on FIBS, the First Internet
Backgammon Server.

TIME: Two weeks is the projected time to complete one round, but
nobody will be forfeited for failing to do that. The Tournament
Directors may declare a forfeit if one player has not contacted
either their opponent or one of the Tournament Directors by email
in what will be interpreted as an inordinate amount of time. The
decisions of the Tournament Directors will be final.

SLOW PLAY: Players are expected to make their best efforts to
complete matches in a reasonably timely manner. Any player which
believes their opponent is not making such an effort, has the
right to complain to the Tournament Directors.

TOGGLE PIP: Both players must have Toggle Pip set to on.

OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE: Players are prohibited from using or obtaining
any assistance from computers, books, equity tables, or individuals
(including kibitzers) during the course of a match. Any violation
will be viewed as cause for disqualification from the tournament.

ANOMALIES: Players are encouraged to save their matches while in
progress (setting toggle move "on" and printing out the moves after
the completion of each game is one option). If a saved match gets
deleted somehow from FIBS, players will need to start a new match
and resign the number of games necessary to bring the match score
back in sync. If an incomplete game gets lost because of a similar
problem with the server, that game will be restarted from the
start regardless of the position at the time of the crash. There
are also rare occasions where a single roll of the dice which has
already been displayed (and possibly played) may be lost due to a
system error. Here again, it will be viewed as if the roll never
happened, and the dice must be rerolled after resumption of the
game. In extreme cases where such a lost roll might have had a
significant effect on the outcome of the match, the players may
ask the Directors for a ruling.

RESIGNING: Errors cannot be made in resignations. If a player
elects to Resign a position, once the opponent Accepts the
resignation, the score stands.

KIBITZERS: There shall be no kibitzing during matches. Others are
encouraged to watch any tournament matches in progress, but shall
restrict all comments during play to use via the Whisper command.
Any player has the right, of course, to "blind" any kibitzer from
watching their match; however, this is not encouraged without good
reason.

DIRECTORS: The Directors for the Tournament are Simon
Woodhead (simon@uniq.com.au) and
Gerry Nugawela (janela@iinet.net.au).

DISPUTES: In the event of a dispute, the decision of the Directors
will be final.

DROPPING OUT OF TOURNAMENT: If a player drops out after starting their
1st round match, or is disqualified by the Tournament Directors, their
entry fee will not be refunded.

REPORTING RESULTS: All match results should be reported to the
Tournament Directors via email. Each Monday, revised ladders will be
mailed to all tournament players and posted to the ozibg list.
The ladders can also be found on the ozibg web site.
An erroneous result may still be corrected, but not after either of
the players has begun a succeeding match.
