ozibg - Australian Internet Backgammon
("ozzy-beejee")
The ozibg virtual community is encompassed by a mailing list,
administered here at Ranking Software. Please look below
for details on how to subscribe. The ozibg mailing list
serves these ends:
- To provide a universal address,
ozibg @ listbot.com , for
people to mail to and be assured that they haven't forgotten anyone who
might be interested. Mail sent to ozibg @ listbot.com will be automatically
forwarded to everyone on the mailing list. (Note that the space has been
inserted to deter spammers who scan web pages for addresses ... :-()
- To keep abreast of Internet backgammon events involving
Australians, for example the Internet Team Championship and the
Australian Internet Backgammon tournaments (entries now open!).
Details regarding the Australian team, which now has around 30 interested
members, can be obtained from the captain (position currently vacant).
- To inform each other about backgammon happening over
Real Boards (TM) :-) ... new clubs, regular gatherings, tournaments,
book-signing tours (?!); anything to do with backgammon and its
promotion in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Canberra's Greg Ash
maintains a list of clubs around the country, and additions are
very welcome.
- To provide a market for selling, buying, and trading of
backgammon merchandise, including books, computer programs, and
equipment. I imagine that the interest here won't be all that large,
but I'm happy to be surprised.
- To actively recruit new people to the game of backgammon,
whether or not they have internet access. Pointers on how to do this
are also welcome.
- Generally, to help foster a spirit of community amongst
local backgammon players, who have for years been isolated by geography
and by the collapse of previously large clubs around the country.
- The list discourages discussions of specific backgammon positions
and other more general questions which are not directly relevant to
the Australian scene. Please direct these to the rec.games.backgammon
newsgroup, which is always worth reading in any case.
Please feel free to contribute more points to the mailing list's
"charter" - I'm merely the person who provides the address (in Melbourne,
incidentally), and this list needs a collaborative effort to be as
valuable as we know it can be.
Thanks for your interest in the Australian Internet Backgammon
community. All requests regarding new subscriptions (got any connected
backgammon friends?), change of address, or unsubscription, should be
directed to the ozibg ListBot page
Who's on the list?
This list has been removed from the public page. We have had
over 80 people on the list from all states and territories,
but with the move to listbot we lost a few. We may instead put a list
of primary contacts from each state here.
